ERS Board of Trustees, 2009 ELECTION
RE-ELECT YOLY

. . . . . . . . . TSEU Organizer Contact: Katie Romich or Ted Hooker

Why ERS Board elections matter - the basics

1. The Employees Retirement System of Texas controls the pension plan for all state agency employees
2. The ERS controls the health care plans for all state agency employees and all university employees outside of the UT and A&M systems
3. ERS Board of Trustees is the governing body of the ERS

4. Half of the six members of the ERS Board of Trustees are democratically elected by state employees

For additional information go to the ERS website, or contact the TSEU organizer contact listed above.

Yoly Griego wins re-election to the ERS Board of Trustees!

With the hard work of union members around the state, Yoly Griego was re-elected to a second term on the Employee Retirement System board of Trustees. Yoly is a TSEU activist and HHSC Program Manager with 37 years of experience. She is only the second TSEU activist to win election to the board. She is the first and, at this point, only minority to ever serve on the ERS Board. She has been a consistent voice against cutting pensions and health care benefits for front-line workers. We fought very hard to get Yoly re-elected against a management candidate who supports cutting workers pensions.
Congratulations to all who actively participated in the election! We have to continue to work to get another front-line voice on the ERS board. The board members should speak for the front-line state workers who pay into the fund and depend on ERS benefits for health care and retirement.
